I would not alter my appearance, but, I would wear dress pants and a conservative tee with flat dress shoes. I would wear makeup and some conservative and discreet jewelry.

I grew up in a small town with a Basilica. We were taught that it was a specially designated church for the pope to attend mass were he ever in the area. The one time I recall a pope in the area...he didn't step foot in our very special church. He can kiss his own ring for all I care.
