teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Start with the original Confederate states, remove all federal assets, and kick the fuckers out. Anyone else who wants to go, let 'em. Let Texas support all those broke-ass red states. One by one, they'll come crawling back, looking for the federal tit. Then we can deal with them from a position of strength instead of allowing them to be our biggest liabilities.

Can't. They represent low taxable incomes but..also...a hell of alot of exploitable natural resources. A cynical person might suggest that we've added the denizens of these areas as an exploitable natural resource. That this is the kernel of truth in their epic fantasy of discontent. I could've told you at any point in my life that these folks really do think the way Mad Marge is characterizing them. Foolish me for thinking they'd revolt over some tangible benefit to themselves - rather than illusory culture war bullshit. Happy with the wages..but you wanna get rid of the groomers?

Dump Texas, and see how fast they have a change of heart regarding immigrants. They’d open that border so fast the air would crackle. Boru

Not really a change of hearts. The south and especially the southwest is already filthy with immigrants. Sure, they make political hay over them...but they don't...you know...stop them. They can't and don't really want to. Because the entire economy and politics of the southeast and southwest us is reliant on them. It's much better to have them fulfilling the dual purpose of legally exploitable labor and culture war agitprop. Can you even imagine what would happen to all those poor politicians and job creators if the immigrants just stopped coming? Maybe, because the us was a shithole country, or somesuch....

Arkansas Republicans Propose a Monument to Unborn Fetuses
“As a memorial to the lives lost from 1973 to 2022 due to the decisions of the United States Supreme Court, and as a constant reminder of our duty to protect the life of every innocent human person, no matter how young or old, or how helpless and vulnerable that person may be, it is the intent of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas to enact the Monument to Unborn Children Display Act … and the Monument to Unborn Children Display Fund,” the legislation states. State Rep. Kim Hammer ® proposed the bill, and three of his colleagues cosponsored it: Tyler Dees, John Peyton and Mary Bentley. The statue would be called the “Monument for the Unborn.” Nevermind that Arkansas has recently been ranked one of the worst states in the nation for overall “child well-being” in a 2022 study that measures factors like education and mental health, and the life expectancy among adults in the state is among the worst in the nation due to higher rates of disease and suicide. Also, nevermind that overturning Roe didn’t end abortion in Arkansas or anywhere else—it just made the situation more miserable and dangerous for people who don’t want to be pregnant. https://jezebel.com/arkansas-republicans...1850143084
