Haven't had a chance to read the whole article but it seemed like tinder for a fun conversation. It seem very counterintuitive that adhering to a belief system that has very strict sexual prohibitions would improve the sexual satisfaction of the believers...on aggregate anyway.

The bits in the gospels where it is alleged that he clearly stated that judaic religious rules were to be kept in toto. Unlike you, I read the bible, I know the messages it conveys.

Do you throw out the Old Testament? It's okay if you do, just want to understand where you're coming from.
Well if he throws out the old testament he's not a christian, but a marcionite.

There are believers and then there are members of churches for other reasons and don't necessarily buy into the teachings. I was raised Catholic but it never really took.
I was a teenaged Catholic school girl...with a lot of friends who were the same. Can't really say that virginity was held in real high regard...and considering the % of girls in my class who were pregnant before graduation I sort of have to figure that odds were pretty good that there were several more who simply didn't get pregnant...it's not that they were pure.

Apparently, our county was considered number one in teen pregnancy and syphilis when I was a teenager in the 90s.

Marcionites were Christians. There are modern NT only churches.

I'm reminded of another study comparing morality or happiness, where later on they revisited it and teased out the atheists from the crowd of non church-goers, and their stats were similar to the faithful. Apparently it was conviction that mattered most, and it takes a little conviction to identify as an atheist. I wish I could remember the study I'm thinking of, but it was years ago. It may have been discussed here.
But my point is that while atheists are among non church-goers (usually), they are their own thing and statistics that look at actual atheists may be different.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
