Why build an Ark?

RE: Why build an Ark?
There is an interesting Chinese proverb that sounds depressing but which seem more often then not to reflect human social behavior.   It can be approximately translate as “when the forces of virtue up their game by a foot, the forces of vice will respond by upping their game by a fathom”.

or vice drives more people harder than virtue.

That question I asked, about what was important and why - this is the answer, for you. So, invariably, all future situations and solutions are yokelish. Congratz! You find yourself threading the very needle that the codifiers had the thread.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

that’s because vast majority of people don’t have enough incentive to try to not be yokels. yokels not as in knowing nothing, but yokels as in not really interested in finding out whether what they think they know are true or not, if finding out seem hard and reward does not bring personal benefit.

-bringing us right back round to the central conundrum in such an explanation. Even yokels knew better.

The details of the flood do not matter, and never have.

yokels don’t care to know better.    which means they are as readily and uncritically susceptible to the con as they are to any vigorous critiques of the con.     So the details of the flood may not immediately and directly  matter to individual yokels,  but it would matter to those who might be moved to critique the flood story through its details, and that in the long run has potential to reverse the beliefs of the yokels and this could threaten to overthrow the whole con.

People who has a feel for the audience would know they need to play to the part of the audience that might critique but can be dissuaded, as much as they need to play the uncritical yokelish part.    This does not take a clairvoyant genius of deception.   any moderate public speaking talent will do.

Not caring to know better is the point, even when told by intelligentsia. The story, as told, only works when you do know better.

If you dont know better it's not interesting, you forget it.

no, it works just as well if you don’t know any better but succumb to the lure of the benefit of pretending you do.  Then you will take care to craft your pretense so it would not be easily penetrated when you really need to do the pretending.

No committed religious person needs to pretend about anything.

The persons who are most effective in inspiring others to commit to religion are often top notch pretenders.

The reason why megachurches grew so fast now applied at least as far back as when hunter gathers first gathered in large groups.    It would have been many thousands of years later  when a band of pretenders first sought to cement their own influence on what they would like to make into a private herd of human prey by segregating their prey from other human herds with a unique, exclusionary and at times exterminatory superstition at the head of which they can place themselves.
