I am not saying breaking the law is always wrong, but I will not be breaking the law for no reason. Especially not committing such serious offences as possessing an illegal firearm. It's one thing to break the copyright law or to say illegal things, possessing an illegal firearm is something completely different.

But there IS a reason: you have said before that more guns make a society safer. Don't you think that, as a citizen of Croatia, it is your civic duty to help keep the country safe?

No, for about the same reason I don't think it's my duty to wear a mask during a pandemic. It's a significant inconvenience, and chances that I will save someone's life by that are minimal.

Did you investigate? You know, call the prison to find out why no one was there? Did you return to the prison on another day? Did you contact a government agency in charge of prisons to determine of the prison was closed or undergoing renovation?

 Drawing a conclusion from one piece of questionable data doesn't sound very scientific.
