[Quranic Reflection]: The Aten.

[Quranic Reflection]: The Aten.
An ancient Egyptian pharaoh called "Akhenaten", worshiped a "single God" described as the "light of heaven and earth"; or the "Aten" in Ancient Egypt:

https://artsandculture.google.com/story/...dZIg?hl=en

This Monolithic pharoah didn't stop at that; he even called the Gods of ancient Egypt "a lie"; in a fashion identical to Jesus, Mohammed, and Moses before them.
Isn't that Muslims' faith? "There is no God but Allah"?

Ironically, he was the husband of the famous "Nefertiti" too.

Is this pharaoh the prophet known to Muslims and Christians as "Joseph; peace be upon him"?
Joseph PBUH in the Quran. was a slave bought by an Egyptian ruler, got appointed as the ruler's son, then became a royalty.

I do believe that Akhaneten is following the same deity as Muslims.
The light of heaven and earth:

Quote:Surah 24, The Quran:
https://quran.com/24?startingVerse=35

(35) Allah is the Light of the heavens and earth. The likeness of His light is that of a niche in which is a lamp; the lamp is in a glass; the glass is like a shining star – it is lit by [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, which is neither of the east nor of the west. Its oil would almost glow, even without being touched by fire. Light upon light; Allah guides to His light whom He wills. Allah sets forth comparisons for people, and Allah is All-Knowing of everything.

‘Aten’ refers to the disc of the sun (deified), it doesn’t mean ‘the light of heaven and earth’ in any sense.

And, considering  what happened to Atenism after the pharaoh’s death, he pretty clearly backed the wrong horse.

The light of heaven and earth:

No.  Joseph is a fictional character meant to set the israelite tribes in egypt, sold into slavery by his brothers and rising up from there.  Akhenaten was born Amenhotep, younger son of Amenhotep, his older brother died, so he inherited the throne.  If you spent even a little bit of time looking up Akhenatens life you probably wouldn't want to suggest that he was your silly prophet..but I won't spoil the surprise for you there.

Akhenaten died around 1334bc, which, if you're capable of doing some basic math, is a great deal before the 600s ad.  So no, he wasn't your silly prophet, and wasn't worshipping your silly god.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Aten is the light, see here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aten

Quote:Aten was considered to have been everywhere and intangible as Aten was the sunlight and energy in the world. Therefore, he did not have physical representations that other traditional ancient Egyptian gods had, instead represented via the sun disc and reaching rays of light.

BTW Muslims too do not "draw God" or "represent him" through Anthropomorphism.

The same description of Allah being everywhere is present in Islam too.

RE: [Quranic Reflection]: The Aten.
If the surviving Great Hymn to Aten is any indication, Aten is represented by the sun and its rays because, for all intents and purposes, Atenism is just literal sun worship.

Quote:Thou appearest beautifully on the horizon of heaven,
Thou living Aton, the beginning of life!
When thou art risen on the eastern horizon,
Thou hast filled every land with thy beauty.
Thou art gracious, great, glistening, and high over every land;
Thy rays encompass the lands to the limit of all that thou hast made:
As thou art Re, thou reachest to the end of them;
(Thou) subduest them (for) thy beloved son.
Though thou art far away, thy rays are on earth;
Though thou art in their faces, no one knows thy going.

When thou settest in the western horizon,
The land is in darkness, in the manner of death.
They sleep in a room, with heads wrapped up,
Nor sees one eye the other.
All their goods which are under their heads might be stolen,
(But) they would not perceive (it).
Every lion is come forth from his den;
All creeping things, they sting.
Darkness is a shroud, and the earth is in stillness,
For he who made them rests in his horizon.

There's no need to give the Aten a form that's basically a human body with the head of an ibis or jackal or whatever because, well, it's the fucking sun and not some sort of middleman who controls the sun. It’s not even the typical Muslim glorified calligraphy, because their equivalent (in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics) would look like a reed, a circle, a half-circle and a squiggly line, and not exactly what they’re supposed to be representing.

And, of course, when I was a Christian, I was taught that God was omnipresent, too, so it’s not like Islam and Atenism are even that unique.

If Atenism worshipped the same God as Islam, why did Atenism fail so spectacularly? It seems that God could have sent the Egyptians a prophet and gotten the ball rolling eighteen centuries earlier.

RE: [Quranic Reflection]: The Aten.
In order for different tradition to be shown to actually be worshipping the “same” deity, that deity must be shown to actually exist.

Two figments of imagination with some superficial resemblances are not the same figment of imagination.
