Government shutdown

Government shutdown
The entire circus that is currently underway confuses me. Can someone dumb it down for me? Am I right in assuming that the conservatives are being petulant whiners who only want to do things their way?

The petulance exhibited isn't a solely Republican thing. Twenty-five percent of the time the Democrats think about doing this.

When it comes to shutdowns both sides are just shooting themselves (and the tax payers) in the foot. Ignorant whiny bitches.

Given the outcome of the last government shutdown, your new Speaker should tread very, very carefully.

Both chambers are moving on separate plans to provide funding. The House plan (Dem majority) is more complicated, with a two-step process and doesn’t include any supplemental funding for Israel, Ukraine, Asia or the border. The Senate plan (GOP majority) is a clean funding plan that includes funding for Ukraine and Israel but is deeply divided on border funding. If no agreement is made, the shutdown occurs.

RE: Government shutdown
The plan to avert the shutdown looks more like a plan to swap a big shutdown now for a series of smaller shutdowns later. The wisdom of this escapes me.

RE: Government shutdown
The threat of a government shutdown is a way for one side to pressure the other side to agree to some of their demands. In the meantime, they hold the people they supposedly represent hostage. Will social security benefits go out, will the military get paid, will Federal employees have to work without pay?

Of note is that Congress never misses a check. Even when they are playing the game of 'we are taking our ball and going home'.

It's emotional and financial abuse of their constituents.
