I have no beliefs in an afterlife.

All the things that make me, me, are a product of brain function. Once my brain stops functioning, there is nothing left to live in an afterlife.

Not true at all, but believe what you want.

Consciousness has about as much chance of surviving brain death as 80mph has of surviving the wreck of the car.

So... where does consciousness reside if not in the brain? (and how do you know?)

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

It survives in the ethereal plane 👻
Especially around shoddily built structures that resonate low frequency subsonic waves.

He's an atheist and doesn't believe in psychic powers...and he told his clients he didn't believe in psychic powers...but they assured him that he was wrong and psychic.

Harry Houdini had the same problem. As much as he tried to assure his audiences that what he did was stage magic, not real magick, they wouldn’t believe him. Even Arthur Conan Doyle - who should have known better - long insisted that Houdini had the power to de-materialize his body and pass through solid objects.

The will to believe is very, very strong.

On the day my wife and I arranged to get married I took her to a spiritualist church in London (that was founded by Conan Doyle). When the medium, after speaking to several other people in the congregation, came to us he smiled and said: "I'm hearing wedding bells". She was in her early 20s I was in my 50s. He then proceeded to say very accurate things about significant events in her life.

He said to more than one of the congregation, after identifying deceased relatives, that they (the deceased relatives) were concerned about the fact that they were putting on weight ... which was not good for their health.

The logic behind perceived hooman importance is quite laughable.

Wanting to feel safe is not really the same thing as self-importance. You're basically just making fun of humans for being scared and weak.

Or worse, stupid. You can't cure stupid.
