In all likely hood, they are dead and so they....cease to exist. If you're wrong of course.
Religion always comes back to death. It highlights a fear that you like to pretend isn't there.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Hey stimbo. Sorry brother I dont get it. You are gonna have to spell that one out for me.

I would like to reply to Ace as well but dont want to have to hit the reply button to take up more space on the board so Ill just compound it in this reply.

You stated that religion always leads back to death.. you sir are correct. Im sure its been heard on here before and even to me it sounds chiche but I like to think of myself as spiritual and not religious. For me religion is for people who are afraid to go to hell and spirituality is for people who have been there and are greatful to be out.

Of course my differing view, religion seems to me as something for people who fear death. The promise of an afterlife once you are long dead. A comforting belief to make you feel safe and assured. How sure are you that you'll wake up after you die? Picture yourself on your death bed and you slowly and steadily lose conciousness, how sure are you that you'll wake up in another place and not just cease to exist?

Heaven (a concept of man) that has some truth or a complete lie to bring a sense of comfort? As a young lad I remember learning that I will die one day. Before then I really thought I'd live forever here on earth. It scared the hell out of me. But I adapted to the knowledge and it no longer affects me.

Any help? No tornadoes, but I was responding to your words. A little obscure perhaps; welcome to the inner workings of my mind...

Ah, I see, thank you for clearing that up for meBig Grin As I said before death isnt the end however it is a transition. It isnt up to us when that transition takes place especially for sombody else.

Somehow I don't think you'd find that a very convincing argument were you put to the axe yourself. The fact that you are not purposefully hurtling yourself towards the abyss as we speak adds a great deal of suspicion in this regard. You are clearly capable of saying whatever crosses your mind, but I don't see much in the way of demonstrating that this is so...

I would agree with you though, death is a transition, a transition from the state of "alive" to the state of "no longer alive". All else is rationalization in service of whatever shitty thing one might be invoking with such an empty proclamation.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Whether I or anyone else thinks your claim is silly is irrelevant. The only relevant question is ; can you prove it?

You have made a positive claim, attracting the burden of proof. Let' see it.

It's only silly to make a claim when you can't prove it is true. Then it becomes wishful thinking, delusion, superstition or mental illness..Tiger

To rythm.. Im not sure to be honest exactlly what your saying. It appears that your asking me if I KNOW there is an afterlife and its better than this life why havent I killed myself yet to get there? I hope im not answering the wrong question here but the reason that has not taken place is that I still have work left to do here. How do I know that? Because im still alive is how i know it. It isnt up to us to decide when we or anybody else makes that transition. And im not afraid of being "dead" in the least. Truth be told I am afraid of the process of dying or actually making that transition or journey to the other side. I have wondered to myself will it just be like going to sleep and when i wake up I will be there or will I be hurled through time and space at ludicris speed? or will there be an angel or will there be sombody that has already gone on come back to pick me up. Not knowing exactly how that will take place scares the crap outta me. When i calm down and really think about it im sure it will be as peaceful as coming into this world. everybody that is important to you is already here at the time of your birth. they already know your coming but you while in your mothers womb are oblivious to this fact. I think that when you cross over to the other side it will be the same. surrounded by the people who are important to you waiting to greet you when you get there. peace.
