My experience is that women are equally capable of conflict, and more subtle in practicing it.

In your face makes you a Karen and easily spotted.  Subtlety is an art form when it comes to conflict.

I’m not saying we are living in a world in which permanent armies are unnecessary. But this might be another instance like the youth protesting against the war in Vietnam in the 70’s in which people say enough is enough.

There are situations (like the war in Ukraine) that have actually pushed many countries to reinvest in their military industries.

The thing we must try to remember while doing this is that weapons are usually built to be used in some place sooner or later. So these very industries may also become the root cause of many conflicts (like the war in Iraq and Afghanistan in the 00’s).

The war in Afghanistan was not caused by the American arms industry. It was caused by Bush issuing an ultimatum that the Taliban refused.

Military industry is a reaction to the human tendency towards conflict, it is not the cause of conflict.

There are powerful weapon lobbies in many countries but they are stronger in the US than in other countries. I believe that the Vietnam War was also largely supported by this weapon lobbies. And back then, it was also the youth that rose its voice and stopped that war that would have otherwise lasted well into the 80’s.

And please correct me if I am wrong but many news sources in the US (and in Europe) are not very happy about these campus protests. This reminds me of the WTO protests back in the last millennia. Commentators in major news sources like CNN called us “anarchists” for being critical toward the ever more globalizing neo-liberal world order.

So I am happy to say that I totally support these protests and I want to emphasize that these are not anti-Semite and/or pro-terror group protests. I’m going to share images from Cuba and from Australia:

No one argues that arms lobbies exist, but your claim that they caused the war in Afghanistan is not correct.

As for Vietnam, of course the arms lobby supported the war. The youth who started the anti-war movement did not stop it, though. That only happened once the middle-class as a whole got fed up by it, and that was as much a result of Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers revealing the secret extension of the war as it was student sit-ins that left their parents bemused if not irritated.
