If the rate of expansion one second after the Big Bang had been smaller by even one part in 100 thousand million million, the universe would have collapsed before it ever reached its present size." * In other words: if the preconditions were different, our universe/multiverse would have been different. Maybe there would not be a universe at all anymore!
Yes, exactly!!! Your point is?

What's your point, some cherry picking of things Hawking said therefore science guy says god did it? Not even close.
I'll counter with this: https://www.themarginalian.org/2019/07/1...questions/

The point: there was a creation event.

All those billions of years of the universe developing stars, and then all those species of lifeforms that died by trial and error just so we can exist after 14 billion years as a planned pinnacle of creation is just nonsense.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Some stories in the Old Testament no doubt existed for a long time, in various forms, before they were written down. Possibly in the Bronze Age. It's difficult to determine exactly.
It's especially difficult to know who made them up originally. There were goat herders in those days. There were also educated classes who knew a lot more than goat herders, and were writing with various purposes in mind.
If you have some historical evidence showing that goat herders were responsible, that would be interesting to see.

The Bronze Age is said to have ended in about 1200 BC. Recent scholarship dates the oldest parts of the Old Testament to the 6th century BC. So that's a few centuries different.
But as I say, to make a more effective insult you can say whatever non-literal thing you want. Say it was written by the first amphibian to emerge from the slime, if you want.
I usually say Iron Age. It's more accurate and really not much less of an insult in terms of them knowing a fracton of what we know today about the world and the universe.

If you can show the rate of expansion could have had a different value, there's a Nobel waiting for you. And if the rate of expansion had been slightly faster, we still get a universe.

Or a transformation event, if Hawking was wrong about the universe coming from nothing. Not sure there's much to brag about if Hawking was right, either the universe had a beginning or it didn't, a coin toss would get that right half the time. And despite the semantics games some people like to play, a creator doesn't have to be sentient. A meterorite can create a crater. Rain can create a pond. There's no good reason that an event that started the universe had to be able to think or have intent.

If a creator created it, who or what created that creator? (this could go on for infinity!)
