No need to ascribe malice or treachery when short sighted idiocy is reason enough. Though I admit that I wouldn't be overly surprised if orange fascist would be some kind of foreign asset - it's not like he have anything resembling principles.

And sometimes malice or treachery is brought on by short-sighted idiocy. I think that's the case here.
I'm leaning more toward him simply being an utter idiot.

I think 'useful idiot' would apply to him.
Trump, Vance and Voight are primarily running according to the Project 2025 plan developed by the Heritage Foundation.
The Heritage Foundation presents itself as an evangelical think tank, leading to fear of a possible theocracy, however the Heritage Foundation is a front for Koch Industries.
Koch Industries core business is oil refining and the general trend of the Trump admin is to remove all restriction on petrochemical use, (drill baby, drill) see the attacks vs. renewable energy, the promotion of plastic straws, etc. I'd tend to view the rest of it as essentially a month long gish gallop whiole Musk seems to be doing his own thing focussed on removing anyone who has, is or could investigate him.

I suspect he also wants to make sure the US maintains its ban on Chinese vehicles.
If BYD could sell in the US, no one would ever buy a Tesla again.
