He could declare a national emergency, invoke the insurrection act, even declare martial law. What does he have to lose? He has one foot in the grave, a massive shitload of crimes he'll be charged with once he loses immunity and is facing a substantial loss of power. He'll do anything to avoid it.

On the other hand, he’s lost a considerable amount of the hold he once had over the GOP. Republican candidates - both challengers and incumbents - seem to be falling all over each other to distance themselves from Trump’s policies, including but not limited to, Iran, tariffs, immigration, healthcare, AI, energy, cuts to social programmes, China, the military, and Ukraine. They don’t want him or his surrogates campaigning with them or even for them.

Not only are Trump’s coattails not what they used to be, but it’s just possible that he’s become so toxic to the Republican Party that even rigging the midterms may not be enough to save him.
