If a person had the brain formation which is associated with being cis, and said sincerely that he was trans, which would you believe?

Show me a single more useful metric, because the eternal bleating of the politicians and their ilk with their baseless, misbegotten opinions isn't worth a damn. I'll take psychology over ideology any day of the week.

Yes, psychology is much better at this than politicians.

That doesn't mean that psychology is free of subjectivity or of influence from ideology.

Yup because the existence of a Trans brain does not mean all Trans people have one.

It's pretty telling how you can't seem to apply this standard of objectivity equally. Do you have objective evidence for denying this person the right to identify any way that they wish? If not then kindly look at the objective evidence for the increased rates of assault, sexual assault, and murder perpetrated against trans individuals and the resulting increase in suicide rates. It's about as clear as you can get where the harm and wrong is in this equation.

I have never said that anyone should be denied the right to identify any way they wish. In fact I've said very clearly that I support trans people and their right to choose.

I have also said that crime against them, as against anyone, is bad.

So I don't think I'm applying the standard of objectivity unequally.

When we think about what's going on in other people's minds, how they think of themselves, how they experience the world, there are few really objective tests that we can do.

This is all related to the theory of mind, to the question of other minds, all that stuff about P-zombies which I'm sure everyone is sick of by now. The way we deal with this, to have some confidence in what we can say about others, is largely not through objective tests but through intersubjectivity.

Though objectivity and intersubjectivity are different, we can still use the latter to form beliefs concerning what other people are like.

I believe what trans people say, but I believe it due to intersubjective experience, not objective tests. Nor do I think that an attempt to force objective tests into this area is appropriate. It's the wrong standard for what we're dealing with.

Yup because the existence of a Trans brain does not mean all Trans people have one.

I asked "which" and you said "yup."

Do you mean that you would believe what they say, rather than what the brain scan showed? Because I would too.

I think clear implication of my comment is it wouldn't matter who I believe because because even the existence of a trans brain wouldn't mean all transpeople have said brain.

It also means that people who change their gender do it willingly and that they are not being "made" against their will like Frankenstein's monster - is this the subject of this thread? Because what do trans people have to do with Frankenstein and his monster? If you read the original post it's not clear except that he was trying to say that trans people are being "made" against their will?

Then he goes on to say "Monster goes on a rampage.", but, again, what does this have to do with trans people? Do trans people go on a rampage?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Yes, I agree with you.

I don't think we'll ever get to a point where a scientific test could determine with certainty who is cis and who is any of the other many possibilities. Nor would I want to get to a situation where a person could say "I'm trans" and a scientist could reply "no you're not I proved it."
