Otherwise i have some selection fof movies and music on my laptop - for use when i am in a hotel room or so .

Banking from a mobile Phone ? No, i only use my staitionary laptop at home and a secure 3 factor authencitation when doing a banktransfer or so. Otherwise i draw money once a month with my card, paying 99% of my things cash.
( Germany is one of the left over cash societies, the 2024 numbers say that 78 % of all transactions under € 100.- ( USD 102 ) had been in cash....)

And what if you want to take a photo? Or if you want to see the weather forecast for the next few hours? Or what if you see a star or planet in the night sky and you want to know which one is it? Or what if you're stuck somewhere in some waiting room and you want to read an ebook to pass the time? Or what if you see a plant growing and you want to find out what species it is? Or what if there's an airplane above you and you want to know which airplane it is? Or what if you see an insect and you want to know which species it is?

Recently the Ninja XL air fryer was on sale for $229. I bought a used one from Amazon Warehouse that has a big dent and so it will be returned. It now sells for $300. I can get one without the reheat and dehydrate function from Walmart for $179. I'm tempted to wait until it goes on sale again instead of compromising. The point to this story is that it is easy to get bent out of shape about something one would rarely need or use. Is it really worth it to lose sleep over such things or pay a wad of cash just to avoid isolated incidents of inconvenience?

Thats not a big problem, if i am out for more than just shopping i have my backpack ready - with an 11 inch netbook among other things, when having  a 3G network or better available i can do all the things you mentioned - and more. i like the netbook better than anything " touchscreen " Wink

My eyes just don't like a tiny screen. I do my larger surfing on my laptop, and only hit the Internet on my phone when absolutely necessary.

I can understand this is as my older eyes are changing. Too lazy to go get new glasses, though.

I don't need prescription glasses (yet, lol) but I need cheaters for small print. I noticed this about ten years ago when I started needing them to do the NYT crossword.

While I understand, and utilize, the convenience of modern smart phones, I don't require one to do any of those things.
