I was thinking recently that both sides are a bit of a con game. We let ourselves think that our vote and other modest contributions will ultimately yield a windfall in terms of favorable policies enacted, just as a lottery player thinks that their $2 ticket is going to net them a good bit of return, and it never does, with either politics, or the lottery. But we let our confidence in the likelihood of such a result be manipulated by promises and exhortations whose sincerity seems to evaporate when they hit the bargaining table. We keep thinking that if we just invest a little, we'll get back a lot. But that's unrealistic. Where else in life would you expect this?

you've got the right to think for yourself tonight ...

Maybe it's not so bad what democrats did because Republicans were ready to starve and torture people. Medicare subsidies will go away for a few years until democrats come to power and fix it.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I'm not so sure. America seems to enjoy our peculiar brand of political theater, and if the Dems were in power, the GOP would have even more incentive to shut down the government, in order to prevent the Dems from implementing policies. Frankly, the US is already known all over the world for making a theater of everything and anything.

Mark my words: we will see a replay of this in Jan 2026, when the current funding bill expires.
Mark my words.
