US Strikes on Iran (Operation Epic Fury)
RE: US Strikes on Iran (Operation Epic Fury)
@Leonardo17

Quote:Will Kim Yon Un be a Martyr if I kill him today?

Yes, he would be a martyr to the millions of North Koreans who believe - sincerely and devoutly - that he was 'born of Heaven' is the only thing standing between them and the evils of the West (never underestimate the power of a cult of personality). There is nothing universal about martyrdom.

Also, how can you POSSIBLY paint the US-Iraq war as a success??

If you deem genocidal scum constantly starting new wars to be a badass then you're walking sack of shit.
The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

Quote:Four crew members have been confirmed dead after an American refuelling aircraft crashed in Iraq, the US military has said.

In a post on X on Friday morning, the US Central Command (Centcom) said that 'four of the six crew members on board the aircraft have been confirmed deceased.'

It comes after Centcom announced on Thursday that a KC-135 refuelling plane had gone down in 'friendly airspace' and a second aircraft involved in the incident landed safely.

It comes after a major blaze appears to have broken out at a French air base in Erbil, Iraq, following a drone attack.

A helicopter was apparently hit and at least six French soldiers were injured. President Emmanuel Macron confirmed early this morning that one had died.

I wonder which hat Trump will wear at the next dignified return.

What offends me even more is this:

Quote:From “Grand Theft Auto” to “SpongeBob SquarePants,” the White House has turned to memes from pop culture and video games to sell President Trump’s war with Iran.

The videos follow a broader trend in the Trump administration’s social media strategy, which increasingly uses artificial intelligence, pop culture and at times sarcasm to promote Trump’s policy priorities and slam his political opponents.

But those memes, which splice together popular kids’ shows or video games with actual footage of the U.S.-Israeli military campaign in Iran, are drawing backlash from lawmakers and experts, who say they go too far in blurring the line between unserious fiction and the realities of war.

“It takes a really complicated and important situation — armed conflict — and boils it down to a little cartoon image,” Peter Loge, a political scientist at the George Washington University. “By making war like a game or cartoon, that removes the reality of war from people’s minds.”

The videos, ranging from five to 50 seconds long, began days into the conflict with Iran and have continued as the war approaches the two-week mark. Seven U.S. service members have died from Iranian attacks since military operations began, and the Pentagon estimated about 140 other members have been injured as of Tuesday.

In one video posted Thursday, the White House spliced together clips from the animated “Wii Sports” game theme with videos of the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. At one point, an animated baseball player is shown at bat ahead of actual footage of a strike in Iran as a Wii narrator says “out of the park.”

War is not a video game, you fuckhead. War is not a laughing matter.

What better way to make people don't care about war than making it into fantasy? It's not done by accident or without purpose I wager.

In some contexts, sure. But it's not clear to me that the employment of dark humor to promote one's policies is a sign of disrespect. Dark humor tends to function as a balm to anxiety that a reality might otherwise promote. I think a more telling question is why MAGA wants people punished for being disrespectful concerning Charlie Kirk's death, yet see nothing wrong with disrespect when it is in service to their political views.

I guess I don't see it as "dark humor", but rather as tasteless humor deployed in an attempt to gloat. Dark humor is what we used to abide shit we hated, like saying MRE stood for "Meals Refused by Ethiopians".

I agree that the double-standards MAGA deploys is shitty.

Some people consider telling jokes at a funeral abhorrent. It's a question of whether the speech and context render the speech offensive. That varies with culture and politics. So I don't necessarily view MAGA responses to the war offensive in and of themselves. People from different political perspectives may differ as to what is offensive. I don't, on the other hand, consider the blase acceptance of hypocrisy as similarly open to debate.
