The Texas horned lizard

[Image: 11870776_10102519959333095_2835328413453845685_n.jpg]

has an unusual defense mechanism. When threatened, it can squirt a stream of blood from its eyes - from its fucking eyes - at a predator. This is reported to be both accurate and effective at repelling attacks by wolves, coyotes, and domestic dogs.

One of them got me like that on the cheek in Florida when I was a kid, it didn't repel me though. I thought it was neat, and put it down when I was good and ready. Might have hastily dropped it if it had actually managed to get me in the eye.

Apparently, it only works on canids. Raptors aren’t fussed by it.

have iron in their teeth, poop sawdust, can carry objects while walking upright, can hold their breath for 15 minutes, and can replace 75% of the air in their lungs with a single breath.

It has an ear mullet used for communication and an incredible jumping ability that can knock birds out of the air.

Nature’s most remarkable animal—I'll list their abilities, but all you need to know is they survived what wiped out the dinosaurs and nearly 70% of all life on Earth.

A small list of the crocodile's strange qualities:
  • It's shaped like itself
  • It's as wide as it has width
  • It's as tall as it is
  • It moves by its own organs
  • It lives by that which nourishes it

in addition to their famous ‘punch’ (1500 newtons and the same acceleration as a .22 bullet) are thought to have the most complex eyes in the animal kingdom.
