Quick Poll - Do you believe in God?
RE: Quick Poll - Do you believe in God?
Yes.

Oh, hang on...

No.

Misread the question.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Are you admitting that you're not working hard enough, Rik?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I think this may be the most humble thing you've ever written. Kudos! Kudos, I say.

So you admit you have not 'arrived'? I wonder how you imagine the 'there' will be when you arrive. Will electricity shoot out of your finger tips like the emperor in Star Wars? Will life become a 24/7 giggle? Will levitation be involved? As someone who admits they have not yet worked hard enough to get "there", what makes you so sure it is worth the effort? Personally, I much prefer "here". Oh, and I'm also rather fond of "now".

I'm already on my way, Rik.

I am very sorry to ask you for an explanation.
I know how busy you are but please try to enlightening me.
Now you say that you are an atheist and at the same time you say that you are on the way there.
But which way are you progressing in?
The way leading to matter, the way leading to intellectual enlightening or which other option?
I guess the way you are talking about is not the same way i am in as atheism and lack of belief in God can not go hand in hand. Confused Fall

No problem, Rik. I am progressing in a number of ways. Knowledge and understanding, achieving personal success in a number of areas, identifying a purpose and working to achieve my goals... I am progressing in those areas. None of them require god, just some self-esteem, ambition, determination and a clear yet adaptable plan. Why wait on god when I can get there on my own?

It is called the progression effect.
As you advance even a little you feel that you are better off than before when you were behind and as you advance more and more the effect increase according to the progression.
Knowing this you also know that the final goal will be better than the actual stage.
The fact that you feel ok. here doesn't wonder me much.
This feeling is called THE CANARY SYNDROME and affect so many people.
Just try to get your little canary out the cage in which he is.
He may die very fast by the fear of getting in the unknown.
Inside the cage he had protection from the predators and he had food and so many other things and beside he forgot how to fly so no wonder that he feel like staying inside the cage.
Sorry for enlighting your very problem but i am sure that sooner or later your syndrome will go away.
After all you are quite intelligent behind this facade of confusion. SmileConfused FallSmile

It is interesting how you say............I can get there on my own.
Now you are talking about progressing in the arena of worldly achievement but these achievement never lead to peace of mind and total happiness so how can you say that you will get there?
Your plans can lead to material and intellectual achievement but what these achievements have to do with peace of mind and total happiness?
External and internal status are two totally different things. Smile

Well, I'm definitely getting there.

Nearly there...

I'm so close...

Nearly...

..............

And there we go.

Now, what were we talking about again?
