The media in particular is barely any better than Pravda from the Cold War days. It's not just Fox News and Right Wing Talk Radio. It's also supposedly mainstream sources like CNN and MSNBC. Yes, nuts like her or Rick Perry should occupy the street corner as a pencil vendor rather than be a candidate for the highest levels of public service. If we had a media that behaved like watchdogs and not lapdogs, they might ask the pointed relentless questions to expose their lies and wrong ideas. Instead, they get treated with "deference" and are thrown softball questions with no fact-checking or follow-up.
It wasn't until 2006, when Bush's approval rating was in the crapper where it had always belonged, when a White House reporter FINALLY had the nerve to ask why he took us to war in Iraq. There was no follow up to his lie that "we were attacked", since Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11, and the reporter took a lot of hell for it.
We Americans pride ourselves in our democratic values. What as that about what goes before a fall again? The recent decade has shown that we're just as susceptible to propaganda as any other nationality. The prognosis isn't good.
