100 Facts Every Atheist Teen Must Know

How exactly are atheists indoctrinated? I've never met an atheist who was raised to unquestionably lack a belief in god. Do you think maybe it's your personal experience that makes you think we're indoctrinated?

And we all know atheists prefer their baby fried with BBQ sauce.

I can try, but seeing as I'm an atheist, I don't believe in miracles.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Not me; I have my own special marinade. ( also just dandy for spare ribs)

Most theists I've met simply absorbed even the loopiest beliefs uncritically, almost by osmosis, before the age of reason. Most people never question their core beliefs about anything.

So far without exception, every atheist I've met was brought up in some kind of religious faith. Some were pretty casual, some were devout. At some stage all began to ask questions and received no rational answers.

Not being a belief system, ideology or even a world view,it is not possible to 'indoctrinate' anyone as an atheist. I guess you could call it indoctrination teaching a child to think independently and to question EVERYTHING.

I'm sorry: I don't actually think that you're indoctrinated - I just kept it lumped in with baby eating as you had.
But then I think that's your blanket term for it where theism is concerned?? Any presented bias would be indoctrination wouldn't you agree? I certainly try not to show bias to my children. Conversely: My atheist parents certainly espoused on their limited understanding... which I picked up.

While I do feel indoctrination plays a large part in people's beliefs, I don't like to use it as general term to describe all theists. But I think you'd have to agree that a lot of people don't actually know what their religion says but still follow it anyway. To me, that is indoctrination.

I'm glad that you try to show bias towards your children. I think as parents we should make it our goal not to impress our beliefs on our kids. I will not be teaching my kid to be an theist, but I will teach him that it's his decision to make.

Yes absolutely, people believe without knowing why. I'm saying - my original atheism was exactly the same... informed from other peoples influence = indoctrination.

Having said that... I've witnessed first hand religious indoctrination. It's anti religion to me, just like a lot of things. People do stupid things. Religion inspires the great and the bad. Mostly the bad. And that's what gets press.

I think a large part of the problem is too many people see their religion as an excuse to hate others or to impose their lifestyles onto everyone else. They like to ignore the parts about how it's God's job to judge not theirs and love thy neighbor.

I don't think so many people would be anti theist if religion was used responsibly.

Responsible use of death cults? It would take a lot to convince me that such a thing was possible.
