I've been naught but honest with you, and do not resent being called a 'troll' by a small being who does not understand. I have a rather average capacity for learning... I should suppose most people can read such a thing by the time they are 9. I say if you still cannot by the time you are 12: you are stupid. And I say that if at the humble age of 25, you remain unable to read that and were born in a country where they speak and write in english: you are an illiterate redneck creationist.

If you can't come up with a hundred thousand topics within the megatopic of sex: keep trying. Then there's drugs, of which there are many topics to be had. Then there's money, which is written about in even faux news. And there's always rebelliousness... that's interesting enough to have revolution.
Quote:Are there any other topics that you believe would interest teens?
Yes. But these would interest far fewer teens

@ 100Facts
Want to write a best seller for teenage boys:
Part one: 50 different ways to masturbate.
Part two: Ten common and legal plants which get you high.
Part Three: The idiots guide to making wine from just about anything in your garden.
Don't bother teenage boys by trying to engage them in abstract thinking. Until he's about 25,he's 32% ego and 68% testosterone.(the ratio can flip without warning). He rarely engages his cerebral cortex unless trying to work out how to get into some girl's pants.
PS perhaps also learn not to refer to an opinion as a fact.

The first part of that will be a major hit seller. See: padriac gets it And he's an old geezer.
Well... maybe not a geezer... but he's crazy. So you should listen to him.

Once again fr0d0, you manage to put words in my mouth. I never said 'scientism,' as you call it, is the only POV, and I'm not really sure why you leapt to that conclusion. All I said was that kids should learn critical thinking, and that science is more useful than religion. Also, I never said there was no merit in religion. Every once in awhile religion manages to squeeze out a nugget of truth, but to declare it as genius is to rob the word of all meaning.
Why would dismissing religion be arrogant? Because you demand that it has something useful for everyone? You may find comfort in it, but not everyone needs it. It is arrogance to assume that everyone should consider religion as a viable tool for understanding life.
fr0d0 Wrote:If you don't know what that genius is aren't you at least interested in what it is before you destroy it? Are you the equivellant of those assholes that destroyed the libraries at Greece?
I am well aware of religion brings to the table. I am not looking to destroy it, but I want to lessen its influence over things that should be secular. I am sorry that you seem to have such trouble understanding that even though I would like religion to play less of a role in the world, I am not out to destroy it.

Hey FTM
Scientism is what it is. I'm just naming it.
Kids should learn critical thinking - check.
Science is more useful than religion - only for things that science adddresses. For religious questions it's almost useless.
You declare that you don't understand religion... and in the next breath make a judgment on it that it cannot be genius. <--- This is not critical thinking.
I don't consider religion a valid tool for understanding life - that's the whole point :- you want to use it as a scientific tool. It is not a scientific tool!
I don't want religion holding any sway where it does not belong either. What I have a problem with is you trying to censor something that you profess to know little about. Critical thinking turns in the grave you made for it.

Excellent, religion is not a valid tool for understanding life. Now let's get out there and preach that gospel. Hell I just about want to smoke a j and sing cumbaya with you at this point. I'll deal with all that "lies beyond" when somebody shows evidence for any of it, but at least we can agree on something until that day comes.
Now on to your troll: What exactly do you "know" about magic? Right, nothing, you believe. If you want to keep building a wall between science and religion fine. Science is how we know things, religion is what we are to believe. Let's be less reckless with our words. If you wan't to say you know something (such as the distance between ourselves and the sun) you'd better be able to pony up the evidence. Don't squirm around telling me that this thing is inherently different. If it's different, use a different word. A word that wouldn't apply to the sun, but would apply to ghosts. A word like belief, or faith.

Fr0d0, it is hard to debate with you because you put so many words in my mouth.
Never did I claim not to understand religion.
I never said I wanted to use religion as a scientific tool, just as far as tools go to help us understand life, religion is lacking.
What exactly did I profess to censor that I know little about?
It's tiresome talking to you because I first have to correct your misunderstandings of what I've said and then debate my point. I'm wondering if you do that on purpose.

I'd be the first to clap my hands for faith. Faith in spite of evidence, faith in spite of self. I thought that was the whole point of religion. Since when did faith become such a dirty word for the religious? Propping up a litany of ad hoc rationalizations is not compelling. I'm open to just about anything, but that doesn't mean that I wont shine a light in the dark corners of an idea Frodo, why you feel this is a detriment to my personality is mystifying.
