Science experiments - Atheist views?

RE: Science experiments - Atheist views?
"Harry Harlow and his colleagues go on torturing their nonhuman primates decade after decade, invariably proving what we all knew in advance—that social creatures can be destroyed by destroying their social ties."

About sums it up for me. Waste of resources, waste of monkeys, waste of time.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Agreed Rhythm. The man sounds more like a sadist who used "experiments" to justify his own need to make something else suffer the way he was suffering.

I find his actions deplorable.

And yet, just like a deadly plane crash leads to better restrictions and safer flying, his actions did finally have a positive outcome.

Still doesn't justify it, but nonetheless, it is there.

Without even getting into the aspects of the actual experiments, I find it deplorable that felt the need to replicate clinical depression. Having suffered from it for 17 years, I can safely say I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Then there's the nature of his experiments which would make Dr. Mengele proud. I was especially appalled by the fact that since the monkeys had no sexual attraction, he tied them up to be raped.

I think the issue of ethics of science is an important issue to discuss, but there is no need for debate on this one. Personally, if I ran into the guy, I would stick him in one of those chambers.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

With a couple of his psychotic foot eating monkeys.
