1. Intelligence is not limited to human beings, and so there is nothing to explain here.
2. Firstly, the universe isn't perfectly suited to life, in fact, if anything at all can be said, it is that this universe, and specifically this planet, are killing machines. Secondly, if this planet were incapable of supporting life you wouldn't be here to ask the question would you? (mull that around and see if you can realize why the question you asked is fundamentally meaningless, especially in light of question 1)

We are (im)perfectly suited to (some parts of) this planet. Which is a tiny fraction of the overall universe, which is by and large absolutely inhospitable to life, let alone human life. You approached the issue in a fashion that we like to call ass-backwards.

Then why are we the only species which has developed complex language, control over our environment, built space ships etc? Why aren't there multiple human like life forms on Earth?

Your using the sentient puddle argument - it's not applicable. I already made it clear I'm talking about the universe, not the planet. You have no evidence there is more than one universe.

How is this planet a killing machine? I present to you the convenient fact that 99.9% of everything that has ever lived on this planet is currently extinct. That's one hell of a failure rate. Unless the point is extinction, then we have a fantastic success.
No, I'm trying to explain to you that you are approaching the question from what is known as the anthropic principle. Specifically that you have your objects in inverse order. We are suited to this universe, not the other way around.
What about it indeed. It directly answers your question as to why it is absurd and impossible to believe in gods existence out of fear of the possibility of his existence, in order to "hedge our bets".

The point I was making with my ant allegory is that what appears to inferior beings as acts of nature could well be caused by forces outside of nature.
