In 180 years Mormonism has gone from nothing to a worldwide religion with 15 or so million members. Either the stupidity of humanity is infinite or the Mormons are doing something right.
Anyway there are much more stranger religions than Mormonism.

Oh IDK Trist, Mormonism is a pretty rare bird. You've got the narrative background of judeo-christianity with elements of a revisionist history of the Americas (chiefly the history of the "white and delightsome" peoples who hold the cosmic deed to the land), as well as incorporation of a healthy amount of what was then science fiction. Interplanetary travel etc.
The "jesus in america" bit is pretty good too. To go so far as to enact your own exodus and wanderings and settle on a promised land. These guys lived the fantasy. It's also a rare bird in that it is such a recent addition to the family of faith that it's origins as a con are extremely well documented. The only faiths with more solid (and well documented) explanations of their origins are the cargo cults.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
