There's something about a scare like this to change your perspective on bad habits.

lol yeah. My old man quit ciggys on the spot. The chest cancer that did for him 30 years later was completely unrelated apparently.

Two other blokes in your room? Is that typical in the UK? I'm fortunate to have a private room with a nice view of Mt. Hood. It can't be my crappy insurance, I think all of the rooms in the cardio-pulmonary unit are private.

Typical of the NHS here. Even the massive specialst hospital back in my home town resembles a factory. My mum was there a few days... they roll em in: flat out, tubed and wired... next day sitting up for soup > on to a recovery room of 4 sharing for 2 days max > shipped out. I started in a ward for 4, was then moved to a ward of 6, where I would've slept a few nights if I hadn't pushed to go home. (I live 50 miles away so it would've been hard on the family).

Yes. It's still serious but with the IVC filter in place the chance of heart attack or stroke is significantly reduced. I'm going to be fine, I'm sure.

Wow, that's very different from here. Then again, our costs are spiraling out of control. I'm glad I don't have to pay the bill for this one. Last time, I wasn't so lucky.

They're telling me I may be going home today! I won't know for sure until after my doc does her rounds, but everyone is assuming I'm leaving today.

I'm supposed to make a full recovery, though it will take quite some time to do so. The best possible outcome seems to have come to pass. My bible-thumping relatives and friends credit the power of prayer, I'm giving credit to the skill of the EMTs, nurses, doctors and everyone else involved in my treatment. No miracles needed.

I'm home!

I'm breathing easier now, but still in a lot of pain. They tell me that's expected. Fortunately they sent me home with a lot of oxycodone.

Unfortunately I have to give myself anti-coagulant injections until the pills take effect. I hate needles but I gotta do what I gotta do. At least they don't hurt much.

Other than that, I have six months to a year of treatment before I'm fully recovered - but its nice to be home.
