Self Expression Through Written Word

Self Expression Through Written Word
I don't know if anyone else here writes poetry, but I do, and if you do I would love to read some.

I write only about deeply emotional things. I guess you could say it's how I cope with pain.

Here I will post some of my own poetry, and I hope to see poems from others here. Feel free to criticize, laugh at, praise, or comment.

This one is about a really dark moment in my life. It's one that just sort of poured out.

Relinquishment

there i sat in my gown,
morphine drip,
and a frown.
every time the door moved
i was sure it was you.
i was sure you couldn't seriously
be so heavily unmoved.

i held his tiny hand and whispered,
apologies for you.
i held him firmly to my chest,
and tried to assure him
that there was no difference
between your heartbeat and my own.

you never walked that long haul.
you left me there to cry,
and all the nurses asked me,
if you'd come to say goodbye.

i rocked him and sang the first song
that you ever sang to me.
he smiled in his sleep,
as if he knew.

they came with their file folders.
they came with their fountain pens.
they told me you'd just touched them,
so i held them in my hand.

abandoned by the one
i refused to abandon.
betrayed by my own heart,
once again.
i relenquished my soul that day,
and found out you never had one.

I like to use words from Old English. I've always been a huge fan of Shakespeare. I also like to make up words, sometimes by mixing a few different words together until I have one that fits my feeling. I don't share my stuff much with anyone, but I have a weird hair up my ass. This is one of my very dramatic odes to my ex lover:

the grayscale

Your lies are like mirrors,
Haunting my walls
With gilded frames and crying faces
of sweet little whored-up
porcelain dolls.

Fuck you and your selfmade pop-up laws,
your famous quotes,
and your dying mind.
You're too against me to be
any friend of mine.

Exit through the steamy pit
from whence ye slyly slithed,
wither in the darkness there,
in spite of the light I tithed.

Quiet your thoughts,
swallow your convictions,
bother to fight for one more day,
scream and kick till the knot comes loose,
and feel the wind as you fall away.

Think of me when you're finally free,
lest i be trapped in your tragic portrayals
of to be, or not to be in love with leigh,
which weirdstrangetastically rhymes with
key...

which starts with ell and ends with
a sea
of tears
and love that cannot be.

But if you could step outside yourself,
if you could walk beside yourself,
down a long and honest isle...
the answer, in all it's lucid disgrace
would be the dirt upon your pile.

one minute you were near me,
and now, my love, you're far..
In life we must keep changing,
lest we die as who we are.

2011

I am no pro, but it's something I have loved.. no, needed to do since I was little. Sometimes I paint my emotions, sometimes I write them, and sometimes I just eat them.

Looking forward to seeing what the other poets of AF have to share!

From the mountains in the east
there comes a hungry beast
it's purpose is to conquer and loot
their leader is cruel to the boot

Temuchin was his name
from Karakorum he came
conquest is his fame

The 40 nations of his empire
descended upon the west
and they resisted with force so dire
he had to put their arms to the test

Chingiss was his name
from Tengri was his game
conquest was his fame

His soldiers were ruthless
his generals quite cunning
the nations of the west felt distress
when they heard that he was coming

The ruler of the earth he was made
By the Sky God who is supreme
for mercy had the nations bade
from the greatest army known to date

Chingiss was his name
from the ruthless steppes he came
conquest was his fame

Robes crafted from chinese silk
riding swiftly on Khitay horses
golden cups from persia to drink mare's milk
laying each night with Rus' morsels

Chingiss was his name,
conquest was his fame
death would be his bane

He searched for eternal life
asking each wise man in the world
he too fell to the ancient strife
but left behind a legacy to behold

Chingiss was his glorious name
even death could not obscure his fame
Behind himself, he left no shame

I was simply telling about Chingiss Khan's life in the poem. He is a great role model of mine, and one of our glorious forefathers.
When I said,
"Robes crafted from chinese silk
riding swiftly on Khitay horses
golden cups from persia to drink mare's milk
laying each night with Rus' morsels"

I was talking about the spoils of his conquests, as his conquest of china supplied him with endless silk, his crushing of the Khwarezmshahs, with persian gold, his destruction of the Kara Khitay Khanate with the horses he needed, the sacking of Rus with beautiful women.

"The ruler of the earth he was made
By the Sky God who is supreme
for mercy had the nations bade
from the greatest army known to date"

The motto was, "There is only God in heaven, and Chingiss Khan on earth." It was generally accepted that he was the hand of God on earth, just like Attila was deemed to be the representative of God, both by his enemies and the huns themselves.

"The 40 nations of his empire
descended upon the west
and they resisted with force so dire
he had to put their arms to the test"

The mongol empire had many nations in them. Mongols and Turks made up the large majority of the armies while persians, chinese and koreans supplemented them with infantry.

"From the mountains in the east
there comes a hungry beast
it's purpose is to conquer and loot
their leader is cruel to the boot"

The mountains refer to the Altai, from where all of us descend from. The popular legend holds that a female, celestial wolf is our mother.
