Blaming Satan

Blaming Satan

Quote:On July 23, 2007, The Petit Family (William and Jennifer Petit, along with their two daughters Michaela and Hayley) were abducted and beaten, the three women were raped, and later murdered by being tied to a bed, doused in gasoline, and set on fire by Steven J. Hayes and Joshua A. Komisarjevsky. Tried separately, Hayes was found guilty on all 16 charges against him, Komisarjevesky all 17 aginst him. Hayes’ 6 capital offenses have earned him the death penalty plus 106 years in prison.

The Komisarjevesky penalty phase is occurring right now. During testimonies of relatives and others trying to see him spared the death penalty, it was revealed that Komisarjevesky was involved in a satanic cult as a teen. This, along with testimony about how he was sexually abused as a child and how he sexually abused his sister, is supposed to paint Komisarjevsky as a “victim” in his own right, and to create an air of sympathy for this multiple murderer that his life might be spared.

Quote:First of all, satanism is a nebulous phenomenon with a wide range of observances and practices. It could mean anything from playing with a Ouiji board, to drawing pentagrams on the basement floor by candlelight, to actually sacrificing an animal (though never a human, despite rumors to the contrary). Under what pretense of expertise do religious people claim when they accuse others of “satanism?” I bet if you ask ten different Catholics or Christians you’ll get ten different responses. But one thing is for sure, satanism is a direct “spin-off-series” from the Judeo-Christian religions. Chalk up yet another contribution to humanity on their behalf!

Anyone else sick of the devil being the perfect scapegoat?

I thought atheist's were the scapegoats!

The pope certainly thinks so: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11332515

Atheists are merely Satan's agents.

And I don't get that. Satan runs and hides when I'm PMSing. I think he should stop getting so much credit.

In saving a human life anything goes.

You are right that satan gets to much credit, evil resides in all humans and given the right circumstances can manifest itself in terrible atrocities. Satan has bigger fish to fry, he doesn't need to waste his time on the psychotic.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Though not about Satanism itself, I actually set out what I think about this silly excuse of "the Devil made me do it" on what passes for my little blog back in January. I feel silly about blowing my own trumpet even if I have a trumpet (BlackAdder reference FTW) but it's under the website button if anyone wants to see a trainwreck. Anyway, I mentioned a couple of news items, in both of which an horrific act is blamed on the Devil: the first case is about 65 year old Miriam Fowler Smith from South Carolina, who strangled a pet dog with electrical cable and then tried to burn the remains - she claimed it was a "devil dog" because it had chewed her Bible and she "feared for the safety of neighborhood children."

The second case is even more grisly, so much so that I'm going hide it from anyone without a strong stomach or no human feelings. (No, I really mean that: please do not read this if you're easily upset.)

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

He's not a perfect scapegoat. You don't feel sympathy for the perfect scapegoat. Christian myth managed to fuck that up too, which is surprising, because we're actually very good at scapegoating.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

In the bible Satan does not do anything without gods permission, so it is technicaly god.

But since both are made up by bronze age goat herders, it boils down to the supers trying to use a scapgoat of thier own making and that the two perps are just sickos using the avaliable scapgoat religon.

Just like in the Hindu tradition the Xtian God has many appearances. He is at least The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost, as we know. And, as you say, He is also Satan (and consequently inherently hypocrite). It's just one more appearance of the same concept. And not the last one either.

In other words: God has MPS. He is a very sick Man. Not surprising. The evidence is before us: just look at that idiotic, manipulative fairy tale book of His. And realise that almost a billion people follow that very confused individual! He doesn't even know who He is Himself! He's like Sybil. And needs therapy and strong medication.
