Further proof that William Lane Craig is insane
November 13, 2011 at 8:08 pm
Quote:Be on guard for Satan’s deceptions. Never lose sight of the fact that you are involved in a spiritual warfare and that there is an enemy of your soul who hates you intensely, whose goal is your destruction, and who will stop at nothing to destroy you. Which leads me to ask: why are you reading those infidel websites anyway, when you know how destructive they are to your faith? These sites are literally pornographic (evil writing) and so ought in general to be shunned. Sure, somebody has to read them and refute them; but why does it have to be you? Let somebody else, who can handle it, do it. Remember: Doubt is not just a matter of academic debate or disinterested intellectual discussion; it involves a battle for your very soul, and if Satan can use doubt to immobilize you or destroy you, then he will.
I firmly believe, and I think the Bizarro-testimonies of those who have lost their faith and apostatized bears out, that moral and spiritual lapses are the principal cause for failure to persevere rather than intellectual doubts. But intellectual doubts become a convenient and self-flattering excuse for spiritual failure because we thereby portray ourselves as such intelligent persons rather than as moral and spiritual failures. I think that the key to victorious Christian living is not to have all your questions answered — which is probably impossible in a finite lifetime — but to learn to live successfully with unanswered questions. The key is to prevent unanswered questions from becoming destructive doubts. I believe that can be done by keeping in mind the proper ground of our knowledge of Christianity’s truth and by cultivating the ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

I've always wondered, if satan causes people to do all sorts of evil stuff, why do we have a justice system? All criminals have got to do is say it was satan that did their crime and they accept jesus as their saviour and we should just let them off? - especially as they will face god's judgement in the end.
Society (rightly) would not accept this, perhaps peoples religious beliefs aren't as strong as we think. Or we don't trust our own religious beliefs.
Because they're shite.

I didn't think we needed proof that William Lane Craig is insane... but here it is anyway.

This rhetoric from William Lane Craig does not surprise me at the very least.

Not insane. A sleazy, manipulative con artist. Remember who he's talking to here. He's not addressing us but those still in the mental bondage of Christianity. The message is "Don't think for yourself. Leave debunking the skeptic websites to me. Stay in that nice mental prison where people like me will take good care of you."
I can think of a very rational, if sinister, motive to spew such things.
There are some Christian apologists like Ray Comfort who are probably stupid or crazy enough to believe the stuff they spew. Most of them are well paid liars who doubtlessly know perfectly well the nature of the mental three card monte game they play.

Not insane, very clever though on all levels. In one sense I agree with DP. I also admire some of his work. The Kalam is perhaps one of the more creditable attempts to reason to a god, thoroughly researched and well defended. It is not remotely convincing however.
I wish he said this stuff in formal debates, it's embarrassing and bat shit crazy. I wonder what he really believes? He must know his arguments, whilst seductive to those who a theistically inclined, are all flawed and not convincing to atheists at all.

One person't "spiritual lapse" is another's intellectual doubt. When you look at the big picture "spiritual lapse" is momentarily letting down the barrier and entertaining reasonable doubt. I say this because to be "spiritual" in this case means guarding your mind (not entertaining doubt). Methods to accomplish this are a type of Christian mindfulness. When your mind wanders off near the land of question you bring it back immediatly. Also spiritual lapse means not being diligent in keeping up with the things that keep your brain washing fresh. Things like going to church, Bible study, christian study etc.
Lastly read my intro thread called "deconverted by theology" I don't see anything "Bizarro" about it. I studied theology for the purpose of getting closer to god. What I became is horrified at horrible logic and pathetic arguments. How was an effort to "get closer to god" a moral and spiritual lapse? I am only guilty of not forcing myself to believe that their theological arguments had any validity. I would like to put the blame on the theologians who can't seem to produce anything better than what they have written so far. But then again, as a true apostate, I can safely say that these theologians can't make something from nothing.
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

Quite sure he doesn't even believe what he says. He'll say anything in a debate which is hard to pick apart, he is only in it for money and adulation from christards.
