NO.
Atheism is NOT a religion,a belief system,,a code of ethics,a political ideology or a social club. The word 'atheism' comes from the Greek word 'atheos', where a=not. 'theos'=god. A atheist does not believe in gods. Nothing else is implied (suggested) or may be inferred (concluded)
A person can still believe in God the father as a bearded man in the sky and still be a good Christian. I repeat, that claim is a no true Scotsman fallacy. Your history teacher is an ignoramus in matters not pertaining to history, a common failing in high school teachers. (well it was in the shower who taught me,except most of them were also incompetent in the subjects they allegedly taught)

Quote:No true Scotsman is an informal logical fallacy, an ad hoc attempt to retain an unreasoned assertion.[1] When faced with a counterexample to a universal claim, rather than denying the counterexample or rejecting the original universal claim, this fallacy modifies the subject of the assertion to exclude the specific case or others like it by rhetoric, without reference to any specific objective rule.
