People in a coma are not dead. They breathe, they have a pulse, they piss, shit, and fart.
I really do think the ancients were smart enough to know the difference.

In that climate the stench would get pretty apparent in short order. Even a xtian was liable to notice that.

Sounds like the typical shit invented by the early church to impress the dolts, though.
I can't help but wonder what the centurions would have done to fend off a miraculous snow even if they'd stayed? "Company, halt! Attack snow!"

Wouldnt it have been a better miracle not to let her get killed?
Snow covered the nakedness of her dead body eh snow tends to do that.
It is amazing what passed for history in the old days.
Actually thinking of fox news. Its amazing what passes for news now!

The custom of tying a string to the toe of a corpse, and the string to a bell, began because there were people that were buried alive, and the bell was to allow them to alert people in case this happened. This is also part of the explanation of three days, beyond the appeal of threes, they figured after three days you were surely dead, not just accidentally buried alive.

Apparently, not even in the Middle Ages - when religious shitheads were running things and ignorance was rampant- did that happen.

Quote:At no time during the Middle Ages was there a prevalent fear that people were getting buried alive, and in no known instance did anyone rig up a bell-pull to notify the living. Most medieval people were smart enough to distinguish a living person from a dead one. Throughout history there has been the occasional case of someone getting buried alive, but by no means was this as frequent as the hoax would have you believe.

The account of Jesus being pierced with a lance and producing first water than blood from the wound would be an indication that the wound would be fatal even if he wasn't already dead. The water followed by blood is an indication the wound penetrated a fluid filled lung before piercing either the heart or a major blood vessel the the chest cavity. This is a wound that would be fatal even with prompt modern medical attention.
So one say might if the description of the lance thrust was authentic, then he could not be in any extended coma and was right and truly dead shortly after receiving the wound even if he wasn't before.

So do dead people, in fact, one of the first things they do is relieve themselves a good percentage of the time. Body shuts down, muscles relax, pressure releases. Also, Depending on one's motivation, a coma can easily be misconstrued as death.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.
