Parents wont let me celebrate Christmas
December 11, 2011 at 6:05 pm
I told my parents I'm an Atheist, so they won't let me celebrate Christmas. I made a good point that Christmas wasn't even about Christ anymore. Hell, the past year before I was an Atheist, my parents never even said the name Jesus. Or even prayed at the table before now. All the sudden out of the blue they want to make it religious now. What do I do instead of tearing out their hearts?

Go along with what they say and don't celebrate it.
I only celebrate it because everyone else does, but the truth is I couldn't care if I didn't.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Good luck with that. I had something similar to that crap happen with my in-laws several years ago, they became more religious in response.
they still are.

I guess you not having any religious belief, they feel the need to try and usher you back into the fold.
Besides, Christmas is actually a pagan thing, Christians stole it. The event is called 'Yule'. Pagan event.
They probably won't wanna hear that but it is fact.
Celebrating Christmas or Yule, doesn't have to involve religion in any way. You don't need belief in god to celebrate the event. Sadly not everyone agrees. Your parents sound intolerant. Sorry to hear of the sticky situation you're in.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Celebrate Chanukah. That way when you get the appropriately shitty gifts, you won't care - and you get to play with fire.
