This time of year is Solstice. End of story.
Celebrate it as you see fit.
For us here it is high Summer. so it is a case of lots of Alcohol and Food and gifts of Food and Drink and those little things that make life over Summer bearable...not unlike the Xtian version of Solstice/ Saturnalia/ Yule/ whatever other pagan festival the religious have convinced themselves that they own.
Personally I like the tinsel and fruit (mostly Stone fruit here in Aus) and Food and the wines and beers that are a product of the harvest of the year. Gifts are optional extras and only given by those of pure heart..unlike xtians who may have ulterior motives for their gift giving??
