While it may be the view most consistent with a omni... God, I am completely baffled that predeterminism is supposed to work as a religion. Why does it work as a faith, psychologically? What is the incentive, what is the reward, the appeal? Can someone explain that to me?

To say that Calvin was correct about everything, is the same as saying Darwin was correct about everything, even excluded to their respective fields. They're both just human and used their intellect and knowledge to the best of their measure. Personally, I agree with Calvinism (or rather a derivative) more than others because it is more consistent with the bible's teachings, tends to leave out useless ritual and tradition (I use tradition as being practices added outside of biblical mandate that have been carried on over time), is more accepting of ourselves, and because it focuses more on a personal relationship with God. To each his own though, I suppose.

I'd like to contest that the way Darwin built his theory on heaps of scientific evidence, incomplete as it still was, is the same as Calvin making an odious sausage out of an inherently nonsensical and contradictory old book

Both were intelligent scholars of their fields, whether you personally like what they did or not. Someone similar who specialized in cooking would rate in the same boat. Personal bias shouldn't detract from their achievement, even if you view it as worthless, as I would a scholar in cooking lol.

One is a legitimate field of study, one is not. Theology fails as a scientific discipline, and is lacklustre as a philosophical one.

However, the work required no less use of effort or intellect. Theology is by definition not a scientific discipline, nor really a philosophical one, it is its own field of study, that's why it has its own category. However, its not as if 15th century science was much more scientific than theology was then, haha

Nothing makes sense in reference to Christianity.

Legitimization is, and always has been decided on the viewpoint of either a person or a group.

Yes, but science has advanced and theology has. . . not.

The better truth is that nothing makes sense at all, but only can some sense be made in one thing relative to another.
