Remember that however bad things seem now, they can always improve.
The world is a mess. The world has been a mess for centuries, we just have access to the news from all regions at the tip of our fingers now, which we haven't had before.
Wars, disasters, famines: they have all been with us since the first proto-human fell out of his tree and landed on his head.
Stand strong, take a deep breath, and find yourself new friends.
There are plenty of decent people out there, not just online.

Shinagami, have you sought treatment for your depression?
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

I don't know what the problem is with your family, other than what you say. Why not sit down and have an honest open talk with them, no getting excited, shouting, cursing or anything that will derail a real family conversation, have everyone to agree to those things before you start and put religion off limits unless you want to make it a part of the conversation. Go have a real family talk and you could discover many people actually care.

Ah, what's this? A Southern Baptist. I know you well having grown up in North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. When it comes to belief in God I really did try. I wanted to for a long time. But I can't believe in something I can't see. My parents aren't going to change. I've tried. My dad's a therapist and the story goes that shortly before I was born his own patient left him a Bible that got him interested in "that Christian thing". My grandpa wasn't religious. My grandma wasn't religious. Come to think of it, my mom wasn't even that religious before then. If I ever meet this woman I will kick her ass.
Yes a Southern Baptist, however you don't know me. I live in Tennessee and have family and friends in North Carolina and Georgia. I've certainly haven't seen anything in these states that should cause one to consider ending their life. It's good you tried to believe in God, let me ask this did you allow God to show Himself to you? You believe in the air you breath yet you can't see it, you believe in the gravity that holds you to the ground yet you can't see it, you believe in light because it illuminates the things you see, yet you can't see it. Yes, you can see the evidence of these things, just as I can, I can also see the evidence of God. What does your grandparents not being religious and your parents being religious have to do with anything, it has been their choice and still is, they have a right to this, just as you have a right to be a non-believer or even a believer if you choose. As for the lady who gave the Bible to your father, that was her right then and it continues to be now. It's not up to you to conform people to your idea of them, trying to change everything about you dislike about those around you could drive one mad, they want to be who they are, just as you want to be who you are. You should stop trying to change people and learn to accept who they are. Enough about all this now, please go and have that family talk and find out some truths in life and share some with them.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Not to hijack anyone's thread, but really GC? Really bro? Is this really what you think? Is this also how you feel about gay people? Atheists? Anyone else for whom "who they are" doesn't line up with the Wholly Babble?
Shini, it's good to see you posting again. I'm glad you made it through the other night at least. Hang in there. There may not be an afterlife, but that just makes this one all the more precious.
Being an embarrassment to your parents/family is not necessarily a bad thing. You won't be under their roof forever. Many kids wind up with ideologies that clash with their parents', and a lot of parents can't accept that, hence the disappointment and/or embarrassment they might be so selfish as to feel. That says a lot more about them than it does about you. Hang in there, dude. You'll be alright.
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)

Are you sure? Do you have siblings or nieces or nephews? Cousins? Friends?
You don't know how you impact someone else's life or what your loss might mean to them. Look at all the people on this thread who barely know you but are affected by you now.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is distance yourself from your family. Just because someone is closely related to you doesn't mean that they are healthy to be around.

Yeah, God forbid anything gets in the way of your Groupthink recruiting attempt of a clearly troubled human being experiencing a low point in their life

You might not like the way I'm trying to help, but you haven't seen me criticize anyone else who have made suggestions, stop trying to derail a thread that has nothing to do with you and your ego, this is serious.

I'd take a caring Christian over a flippant Atheist who thinks my depression is ripe material for jokes.

Was that aimed at me? Because I do not take kindly to being accused of flippancy over such things.
There are some who have been so in this thread, and now you mention it I do wish they would shut the fuck up, because they are in no way helping Θ_Θ
