Wow. Yeap, I had a amd radeon hd 5770. It can be a bitch but I was under the impression amd improved support. The issue ins't linux per se, its amd refusing to support linux or cooperate with the greater community to allow support. One more reason to use nvidia.

I apologise for introducing a bit of off-topic here but since you mentioned noVidia, I really need to ask you an off-topic question because right now I'm on a cross-road (almost like Dean Winchester was). If you read your personal message it would be a lot easier to explain what I wanna ask tomorrow. Right now I sniffed 6 white lines of highways to hell and my brain is starting to boil, so if you don't mind to continue the off-topic in personal messages.

Currently running Fedora 21 dual booting with Win7. If when I get my new SSD and paired 4TB (mirrored RAID) I'll be tearing down and reinstalling everyting, including multi-boot with a variety of Linux distros and Win7 (need AutoCAD for work). Right now, fedora is the only one I can get to install alongside Winblows.

Yep, been using it since back when the kernel was 0.99 patchlevel something or other.
I don't currently use it as a desktop OS, except in a VM. It's used heavily at work as a server OS, my own server needs are satisfied by it as well, though I have started to use FreeBSD instead.
On an unrelated note, I shared a scuba dive charter with Linus several years ago.

I first installed slackware back in 1996 on a Pentium 60 and had to copy it onto 40 installation floppy disks. I briefly used Redhat at work and then bought Suse (now OpenSuse) in 2002 and have kept with that ever since. I originally bought that because I had heard that it just came with the most stuff.
I really don't like Ubuntu and had to use it at work once but I replaced it with OpenSuse when it messed up upgrading itself. I had a Debbian server once (it was a VPS) and that was so time consuming having to figure out how to configure everything on the command line even though I do all my programming on the command line and hate graphical IDEs.
I don't bother upgrading with OpenSuse, I just reinstall the operating system each time because my home drive is on a separate partition. Sometimes there can be bugs though. Like getting it to dual boot with my new computer with UEFI on a separate hard disk was rather difficult. I'm not looking forward to moving to the next version now.

I use it exclusively, though I currently run the l4m3r distro Ubuntu.
I always feel patronized by Windows, I use a lot of free software of all kinds, a lot of scientific stuff is designed to run on linux. I like being able to use bash and all that goes with it

Linux fedora 21 at work... running smoothly-ish with KDE on a pentium 4 computer with 2GB of RAM... much better than cinnamon was running... and I refuse to use that hell-spawn thing they call Gnome 3.
On my personal 6 year old laptop? Win7. Great for firefox, games and android rooting (why is it that the people rooting phones all create applications for windows and not for linux?)

I have been using linux Mint for the last 2 or 3 years, never had a problem with it, it boots fast and so far I have never had it crash (that's probably the kiss of death!)
