the hammer of homosexuality
RE: the hammer of homosexuality
I mean here's what would make me a believer:

If the bible were found independently written with mostly similar content in every major culture throughout history. Then I'd accept it as God's law.

That's actually not a bad argument for actively disbelieving in the concept of "divine inspiration" for the holy texts.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

I mulled over the pie analogy. It doesn't work. it's off by about 30.69 degrees with a repeating 69.
It's off because different types of sex is not what i'm talking about. Over indulgence is also not what i'm talking about. I agree that sex should be respected. I agree that it should not be the only thing in our lives but that is not the topic. The topic is why would this god make homosexuality only to condemn it when it harms no one?

However, just for fun let's go with this.

This baker makes all sorts of pies to be enjoyed and he distributes these different types of pies randomly. One pie he makes is the skitles pie (taste the rainbow). he makes this and randomly puts it out to his customers (which is everyone). Too many pies is not a good thing but no pie ever is worse on health and sanity. These are really good pies.

Before leaving the shop on an extended leave of absence, he (or someone) posts all over town that the skitles pie is not to be enjoyed but instead it is to be smashed and thrown away where ever they are to be found. Further that anyone who does enjoy the skitles pie will forever be denied any more baking goods from his shop (which means starvation).

The problem is that there is a customer base that only likes the skitles pie and thinks the others are disgusting ( no beaver pie for them). For them it's either sneak the skitles for any sort of enjoyment in their lives or never enjoy that part of life that is sweet. So they must choose starvation or insanity.

So even with this analogy we are back to these questions.

Did the baker make the skitles pie as a cruel joke because he likes to see his pies smashed and the people who enjoy them suffer or

Did he make mistakes (consistently) and now wants the majority of customers to fix his mistakes or

Did a group of people who think the skitles pie is disgusting just want it off the market so that no one could have it?

If I can see this logic then so can you. If someday they prove that homosexuality is biological then that could mean the beginning of the end for religion and you know that.... don't you.

I think the Baker analogy works better like this:

A baker makes pies. There are two kinds of pies that he makes: Chocolate and Cherry. Both are good pies. This baker lives in a town of 10,000. Nobody has ever met the baker, but supposedly he does exist. Two people announce to a group of about 873 people that the baker has decreed that men shall only eat cherry pie, and women shall only eat chocolate pie. Then a group of about 5 people come together and write a book about eating pie. In it they make some rather dubious claims. But nonetheless people insist that it was inspired by the baker. They further state that only people who are married may enjoy pie, and women who like cherry pie and men who like chocolate pie aren't allowed to get married because they refuse to eat the 'right' pie for their gender.

The question ends up "Why would the baker care if men eat chocolate pie, or women eat cherry pie, or if they were married when they ate pie?" What does it matter to him? Should men who like chocolate pie but don't like cherry pie be forced to never eat pie? Should women who like cherry pie but not chocolate be forced the same? What does it hurt if men eat chocolate pie, or women eat cherry?

Check your genitals. They will tell you what kind of pie is Godly.

I was a big Baldurs Gate and Planescape Torment fan.
Beamdog are making a "Baldurs Gate 1.5" apparently. Bridging the gap between 1 and 2.
Which is awesome because its what nobody asked for.
