Yes, he said love thy neighbor, and judge not lest ye be judged. He also said slaves obey your masters, even the cruel ones. It's better to tie a millstone around someone's neck and throw them into the sea, than let them lead anyone away from god. He also said thoughts were as bad as actions, and told his followers to give away all their possessions, including the shirts off their backs if asked, because the world was going to end within their lifetimes. Also apparently you can go to hell just from having a good life on earth, as was the case of a rich man who found himself there.
If you think Jesus never said anything that could be considered wrong, read the NT again.
what he said was right and was inspired by God so i disagree

I'm sure a christian would say that, but it's going to be hard to convince a nonbeliever that thoughts are as bad as actions, or that you should drown people who have different views than you. Not to mention approving of slavery.

Quick question, if you'll indulge. Is what Jesus 'said' right because, as you put it, he "was inspired by God", or would it be right regardless? What impact does it have on the parts that would be considered wrong by modern standards?
Ok, that's two questions. I lied.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

jesus did not say people should drown someone if they hurt "little ones" he said it would be better if a millstone were about their neck not that people should put a millstone around their necks and throw them into the sea
5"And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; 6but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

That seems to be exactly what he's saying in that verse. Not that it's a strict command, but a suggestion that we all know some followers would take seriously enough to do it. How many times do you think millstones get accidentally hung around people's necks?
Maybe he just wanted his followers to make it look like an accident. It would be a shame if a nonbeliever found a millstone hung around his neck, and fell into the sea with it.

well what is considered right and wrong depends upon the culture doesnt it ? what is acceptable in one culture might be considered very very wrong in another it depends on the people and what the people think about it .

i disagree i dont think he was suggesting that thats what people should do or he would have said "they should be" not "it would be better if they were"

But that's not what I asked. I chose the phrase "would be considered wrong by modern standards" with precision; and I don't expect you to have firsthand, in-depth knowledge of other cultures. Perhaps try again?

What's the difference between saying "they should be", and "it would be better if they were"? The latter is just a nicer way of saying the same thing, and we know christians have taken that kind of idea seriously. People have been killed and persecuted by christians for spreading a different religion, or just not converting to christianity. What good does it do to try to soften it when historically people have done exactly that sort of thing, and could easily use the bible to justify it?

no i think by modern standards what jesus taught would be acceptable aka "right" in our culture (im American) although our culture today is different than that one and so some teachings do not apply because it is absent from our culture.

i agree with you on that christians have definately used the information in the Bible as justification for horrible acts .

I asked once what "good things" the bible teaches Christians that are not fairly obvious to a well balanced atheist who has never even heard of the bible. I did a whole thread about it, and the answer was nothing.
