I'm going to be joining a boxing class soon. But my folks are worried I might get clipped and not be able to do my exams. Also, they're refusing to give me any money to join this class so I'll have to make it by myself.

No great shakes. I won a few, lost a few. I boxed mainly at uni.
Tell the parents that the danger to someone just starting instruction is minimal. Reputable gyms will have you wear over-sized gloves, headgear, a mouth guard, a kidney belt and a cup - you're more likely to get hurt climbing into the ring than during an actual bout. If you do take up boxing, try to remember Mike Tyson's timeless advice: 'Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.' Good luck.
