The Problem with Christians
RE: The Problem with Christians
Such a fine example of condescension and arrogance at an early age, you're well on your way to becoming a Drich Jr young Padowan.

I am uncertain how having a knowledge of biology and real science in any way proves the existence of god. But that is just me.

I'm not usually too rude, but constable dorfl is one of the most disrespectful people I've seen on the forum.

I remember me saying that DNA can't copy itself and people telling me how wrong that was. I remember you guys shouting that I was lying every time I mentioned how an enzyme functions because you didn't want to acknowledge their complexity.

And its not coincidence that my classes started in January, that is pretty standard. You probably wouldn't be familiar with it, but that is normally the time when students go back to school for their second semester.

How well do you think you're going to do in the biological sciences when you reject a cornerstone principle of it based on a series of arguments from ignorance?

Well so far, I'm doing just fine. I think that looking at things from the design perspective has helped me learn and understand the material. So far, a belief in evolution from one common ancestor has not been necessary. It is typically just thrown in at the end at this point. After learning the unbelievable process like photosynthesis they'll say things like 'these are some of the most efficient machines ever observed. It is a true testament to what evolution can do.' They don't go in to the origin of complex processes like this, but they are sure it happened gradually.

And you think it happened by magic. How scientific.

By the way, a 5-second Google search and a glance at Wikipedia yielded a nice little article about the evolution of photosynthesis, complete with citations and everything. Love me some internet.
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)

Why is design magic to you people? Engineers are not magicians.

And yeah, a 5 second google search can also tell you that the earth is hollow. You can literally find anything on the internet. Also don't assume that all citations represent experiments, go read the primary articles. I guarantee they are highly speculative. That's fine, but don't pretend that it is the same as empirical/experimental science.

In a way, I believe scientists shouldn't debate Christians. It's just banging your head against the wall. Especially, talented scientists that have better uses for their time which can make the world a better place.

Because your kind of design requires a magician. It's not an engineers job to poof a universe into existence and to populate it with premade beings. We're not talking about Ford's next year model here.

They would be if they had to poof the things they made out of nothing. Don't play games with us. Dodgy

So what you're telling me is that you're a college student training to be a scientist... who refuses to do basic background research into a cornerstone principle of your field, even when many aspects of biology would not work if evolution were not a real, active phenomena.

And hey, I guess all those English Lit students don't need to know how to read, right? Reading isn't the same as literature! Rolleyes
