Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

The Placebo Effect is what happens when a person thinks they're getting medicine, but in reality nothing is happening.
However, due to their brain's reaction to the "good news" of the cure they're getting, they produce fewer stress hormones and their immune system's reaction improves. They are thus "cured" (or improved) by absolutely nothing other than their own natural processes. Saying that faith-curing is the Placebo Effect is exactly what we've been claiming all along. However, in the prayer tests on cardiac patients, it turned out that in the double-blind tests, no difference was noted between those who were being prayed for and those who weren't... and when the subjects knew they were being prayed for, they actually fared slightly worse, as if they gave up on their own healing process in order to rely on a supernatural process that simply doesn't exist.

Which is damning, because if faith is placebo.....granted, btw...sugar pills work better than faith -as- a placebo. Perhaps we should stop all this praying to god and start farming more beets?

Again, what were talking about is faith (aka belief) being able to heal, not prayer... hence "the prayer of FAITH shall save the sick". A prayer without faith ain't doing jack, neither is a placebo without faith. People with absolutely zero faith experience the placebo effect too. There's nothing linking the 'faith' described in the Bible to the phenomenon of the placebo effect.
Furthermore, there have been studies on the effects of prayer on patients. Just look up the STEP studies sponsored by the Templeton Foundation. The effect of prayer was non-existent in most cases, and negative in some. Are you telling me that all those believing Christians just didn't use 'faith' in those prayers?
