Living in America's South...

Living in America's South...
So hello, I just googled atheist forums looking for someone to discuss religion with and this was the first link. I live in Texas which means everyone around me is Christian so I need to look elsewhere for any kind of conversation that doesn't involve god bless you, have a blessed day, god works in mysterious ways... etc. My fiancé is Roman Catholic and we work because we don't really discuss religion but I would like to be able to discuss it with others of a like mind. I do follow some atheist pages (literally just started a month or two ago so I'm very new to being able to actually vocalize my beliefs without getting told I'm wrong) and comment with the other readers but that is more of whatever the person wants to post at the time. I would like to have a more broad conversation.

lol you can always tell when a vegan, crossfitter, atheist, or Texan is around because they will tell you within the first five minutes of meeting them. ;p

Not that I have heard but I am sure if his mouth is moving you can bet he is saying something stupid. I haven't been focusing on news lately due to Ft. Hood (where I grew up) losing 9 soldiers to the flood. :/

Glad you are not buying into social norms. But "atheist" isn't merely as simple as saying " that is bullshit". There was a time before I got online back in the lat 90s that I did not believe, and deity/god claims didn't make sense to me, but still had the lifetime of indoctrination that not believing was undesirable and a stigma to be avoided.

There is a a lot more to adapting a position, than " that doesn't sound right"

The core and most acceptable reason for rejecting any and all god claim is lack of evidence. Moral reasons are another that all religions point to others to point out their transgressions, and they are not wrong and wrong at the same time.

All religions are right in pointing out the transgressions of all others. But they are all also wrong in blaming other religions for those transgressions.

Our species ability to be cruel or compassionate is in our evolution, not our labels. A label has no magical powers, no matter how old that label is. Every religion can point to it's history and heros, but that does not change that all 7 billion of us are the same species.

Why is it that Florida is never particularly considered The South when Florida is literally further south than every other place that considers itself Southern.

Because it's not as steeped in the history and traditions the rest of the south clings to.
