It's not "Nao"... it's "Não" that's tricky to say... that ão is not exactly a sound that is heard in the English language.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to do that symbol on my keyboard Tongue

It's almost like a soft "n" sound at the end of the word? My ex was from (sorry, gonna do it again, no symbol haha) Sao Paulo and he would say it like "Saun Paulo"

ETA - Ohh I thought he was saying he "couldn't" say it like he was trying not to out of habit or something

yeah... it's a nasal sound... more so in Brazilian.
All nasal sounds carry a bit of that 'gnnn'

Also hold the Alt key and type (on the numpad) 0227... you'll get: ã

I think the Romance languages in general sound beautiful, they're just such sexy languages, especially Spanish and Italian. I've wondered actually, does the English word "Romantic" mean what it means because of how beautiful the languages sound, or are the languages called "Romance" because they sound beautiful? It's like a chicken or egg situation.

They're called Romance Languages because they developed from Vulgar Latins, i.e. the language of Rome.

As for whether they're sexy languages or just sound beautiful, you tell me Wink

I may not be entirely impartial in my judgement tho Wink

It's not nasal-sounding to me at all Dodgy It sounds like a very open, back-of-the-throat sound.

Oh, they're definitely sexy. I'm instantly 50x easier if you speak Italian, Spanish or Portuguese. Yes, I clearly have a type...

But some Portuguese speakers can't say the letter "R", so it goes both ways Tongue

I died when I heard this Brazilian guy call Rihanna "Hihanna", and "Lana Del Hey" as well, sorry Tongue

yeah... Brazillians can have a certain difficulty in saying things properly....

pt-br has evolved and became a bit weird with sounds that are not in the written words and crazy stuff like calling their country "Bráziu".

But pt-pt, the mother tongue, that one gives you some nice R's... trilled or hard? we do it! And they makes us end up sounding a bit like russians Tongue
