I live in Texas which means everyone around me is Christian so I need to look elsewhere for any kind of conversation that doesn't involve god bless you, have a blessed day, god works in mysterious ways... etc. My fiancé is Roman Catholic and we work because we don't really discuss religion but I would like to be able to discuss it with others of a like mind. I do follow some atheist pages (literally just started a month or two ago so I'm very new to being able to actually vocalize my beliefs without getting told I'm wrong) and comment with the other readers but that is more of whatever the person wants to post at the time. I would like to have a more broad conversation.

I live in Texas too. Welcome.

Hey, C/L.  You should check this thread out on TTA.  Right up your alley.

Best thing I've seen all day. Thank you!
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

You've lucked out, cause there's a ton of great people here. Welcome!

(I'm a  fellow southerner--Georgian--and I feel your pain).

Hiya Mooney, welcome.

Where in Texas are you? Hill Country here, between Austin and Llano.

I've been working with Somali Bantu refugees (Muslims) since 2004 (almost done since for some reason they're leaving South Carolina). When they first arrived, one of the things they found astonishing was all the places of worship: why did we need so many?

Everyone has slightly different ideas on how to worship Jesus, so they made a dozen different churches. Tolerance of different beliefs is not a biblical teaching. That's why they invented the term heretic. A heretic just means fellow member of the same faith that doesn't agree with all of your views.
