That comment was brought on by my personal antipathy to the introduction of the word "votáil X" as the verb form of vote in the Irish language, when we already have a perfectly acceptable formulation "cuir do rogha ar X" (literally, put your choice on X) in the language. The same antipathy goes for the word "carr" introduced in place of the proper word "gluaisteán" for car (well automobiles in general). I don't mind substituting in a foreign word when there is no native equivalent but when there is, it's just simply dumbing down a language.

I'm half Irish but I don't speak a word of Gaelic, having never lived in Ireland (that above was just from Father Ted if you didn't know ). I'm sorry that you're seeing the language ruined by Anglicisation but from my perspective it would certainly help the transition if I end up moving there because of Brexshit   One of my Irish relatives is an expert in Gaelic and spent his life trying to preserve it, so I do roughly understand where you're coming from by wanting it to remain pure. It is something I should try and learn, even just a little, for the sake of my own heritage.
