Question to Christians

I think this whole "hell thing" is kind of fun. I mean what kind of nice and understanding god creates a place where he can torture non-believers until eternity? Smile

Because it's very educational to find out what sick fantasies of pain and torture religious people indulge in. You see, we - normal people - do not wish eternal torture on anyone, so the concept is alien and amusing to us, especially when it comes from people, who consider themselves righteous and loving.

The cornerstone of preaching is that unless you surrender to Gods will of striving to become more loving being instead of holding on to egoism might result in agonizing torture because God loves you and (and being the alpha male) he does it in the most badass way - tortures his creations.

RE: Question to Christians
I still think the end state of infinite torments for an infinite amount of time inflicted on a damned human soul would be knowable to an omniscient god who could then use His omnipotence to create a Hell that could instantaneously progress that soul to it's final condition.

An infinite torment for an infinite amount of time doesn't need to take very long at all.

And absorbing that torment instantly would be of far greater impact to that soul than diluting it over an eternity, no ??

Maybe because it often gets used to terrify children into blind obedience, potentially causing lasting psychological damage.

I don't know, I haven't ever read the bible. I get my theology from Supernatural.

RE: Question to Christians
Of course you haven't. No one would remain Christian after actually reading it, would they?

It's like finally playing the game everyone has been hyping up and finding out it's a load of ostrich boogers.

It seems I can't argue with that until I actually read it. So, if I were to be intelectually honest, I would pretty much have to agree that people that have read it know more about my religion than I do. Funny how that works when the person concerned is an atheist. That makes me think... huh...

They fall victim to the religion. There is a huge difference.

As for atheists, most of us have read the bible. Not only is that how we actually lifted the religious veil from our eyes, but it is how we can better understand the religion in order to properly debate the theists who prefer delusion over reality.

"Why does the bible say [horrific thing]?"

"It doesn't."

"Yeah it does. Right here."

"Oh well, the thing is [ad hoc rationalisation for horrific thing]."

"That's interesting. You didn't even know it said that until I mentioned it. Now you know exactly why God wanted it included."
