Yeah, but don't forget that I'm not a very trusting person for reasons I would only divulge in a personal conversation. And secondly you can be everything you want on the internet. It doesn't say you're talking to the real person behind any sig.

As I said, going by what I see here, I like quite a few members here.

Lol. I feel like you think "the Internet" means AF. You can't really hide behind a signature if you're getting to know someone personally.

I will give an anoymous example

I know a person from AF, I'm friends with said person on fb, I'm friends with this person's parents on fb, I am friends with this person's spouse on facebook. I know where this person works, I know where this person lives. I know what this person does as hobbies. I even have seen enough of the surrounding area in pictures and videos to say I could probably find this person's favorite bar if I were to find myself in their area. At this point when someone starts sharing their private life with you, they can't hide behind a signature on the forum. When you start to get personal it's a lot harder to pretend to be someone you're not.

If you manipulate someone well enough you're going to trust them with what you manipulated them into doing.

Manipulation is always at work, whether we notice it or not.

I think you need to define manipulation very broadly to make a claim like that, to the point where it's a tautology.

No, you only have to define it as it is generally defined at the moment. When one notices it at work it becomes what it is, manipulation, when one doesn't, one might mistake it for other things, as one usually does. It can also happen that you manipulate someone and you can't even tell yourself or vice versa, of course.

Well, if it's always involved, then it's still a tautology. It's an inescapable part of human interaction, according to you. So it has no further meaning of its own. It just means we interact and affect each other.

It's not a tautology in the least, and even if it was, that would be a fault of style, not of logic. Not everyone views interactions in this way, so there's nothing wrong in pointing this aspect out.

I'm very well aware that there's no such thing as anonymity on the internet. That however doesn't mean that I'm sharing all my personal details and predicaments with the whole world. I'm not on facebook or any other social platform. For one because the virtual company there doesn't interest me at all. And secondly because I know that it's a giant and glorified marketing profile generator at it's base.

In that aspect AF is one of the better places. But still, I don't see any reason to spill my personal beans here for everyone to see. A little bit, yes, but certainly not everything that makes or breaks me as a person.
