Drumpf might pardon him.

The gist of both:

the 'system' contriving to spare Roof makes me nauseous

WWMLKD . . . .

Jesus fucking Christ

I'm definitely of two minds about it.

I'm only opposed to the death penalty because of the very real chance that an innocent person could be sentenced to death. If that means I have to accept Roof's continued existence for consistency's sake in as clear a case as you'll ever see, then so be it. Otherwise I'd meet you at the gallows at noon tomorrow.

If anyone deserves to be killed it's him.  Maybe they should just put him in the general prison population and let nature take its course?

I'm confussed.

It seems most of you will claim to be vehemently against the dp, but when presented with a specific case, take on an attitude of "wellll, if it's HIM..."

Stick to your guns, folks. This is why the question of right/wrong is based on objective principles, not emotion.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Tbh I'd imagine that's a big part of what swayed the decision. He's only going to get fucked up and probably murdered in jail anyway, why not let it happen in a more "proper" way?

@CL - I'm not for it, but in this case there's pretty solid evidence and I just don't care for him enough to protest it. I can feel a perverse pity and hope for most young impressionable victims of extremist indoctrination, UP UNTIL they get violent, at which point they've crossed a line I just don't feel anything for them anymore.

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable."

Unfortunately -- or fortunately, take your pick -- I'm not a robot. Given that, I'm able to hold a rational position yet have emotions which run against that tide, and I'm comfortable with that dichotomy.

There's no such thing as "objective principles of right and wrong". Each person can have their own principles and then stick to them objectively, of course.

Since being on this forum, I've changed from leaning towards being pro-death penalty to leaning towards being against it. I still see arguments on both sides.

I think we should do whatever costs the state less money. Kill him if that's the cheaper option, I couldn't care less.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.

It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.

Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

Absolutely against the death penalty, and that extends to him. State-sanctioned murder does not and will never belong in civilisation.
