Evidence for the existence of God

I think we're dancing around the real issue here, though, which is that your god cannot supply that sort of evidence.

We're not dancing around the issue. We're discussing what would it take for atheists to be convinced.

Quote:I also won't accept any argument portending to show that god is the best explanation for this or for that, which I believe you alluded to earlier, unless that same argument begins with well supported and verifiable calculations showing the probability of a god versus other explanations,

Please elucidate your meaning of "well supported and verifiable calculations" by providing examples.

How about you just present your single biggest, best piece of evidence, and we'll what folks say about it?

Does it empirically confirm that the physical universe is intelligible, if so then please explain quantum entanglement.

Yadayadayada,

Oh, but it certainly does when it comes to EVIDENCE!  Do you need help in picking out your god concept from the list
that I've shown you?  Do you want to break it down, by lets saying, who is the most brutal serial killing god known
in the primitive Bronze and Iron Age?

I know, to make it simpler for you, what writings from said god do you read from?

Once again, you seem to be having trouble with basic reading comprehension. You are the one who identifies as an atheist. Why are you asking me what gods you do not believe in??

This thread is not about me. It's about you.

RE: Evidence for the existence of God
I'm an ignostic fundamentally. I find the question incoherent. I call myself an atheist to keep things simple, because I'm likely not to believe in any definition that is put forward. But as we are seeing, people can rarely even define the thing they believe in.

If you don't know what it is, I sure as hell don't. And as such, I don't believe in it.

A point of agreement, I also think it;s a simple question.  Very simple.  I keep telling the others that, but they don;t seem to have any confidence in me.  Maybe you can stick around to tell the next one?

If there's no money shot it hardly matters what I would accept as evidence.  The moneyshot..in case you were unclear....is whatever evidence you possess, lol. If you're having trouble figuring out what the word evidence means, the best way to resolve that is a dictionary, not asking the crowd.

RE: Evidence for the existence of God
You seem to think that's a problem for people who don;t believe in it, rather than a problem for it;s proponents?  How could a person believe in something they have no definition for....how might that be accomplished?  How do we get to the point of

"I believe in -undefined-".

What does that even mean? Advice, that you can take or leave. Whatever talking points were fed to you by your shaman, they're not going to get any play here. The conversation won't go the way you've been lead to expect.

Sure, it's a simple question, but that doesn't stop it being incoherent. God can mean anything.

I'm always amazed at people who would rather play silly games than define their own concept. Seriously, if you're not prepared to even describe what you're talking about, you're wasting everyone's time. If it's really that difficult, maybe you should consider why that is.
