The big wig con men need new suckers to fork over the cash so that they can maintain their opulent lifestyles.  So they need the youngsters in their flocks.  That way they can ensure a steady income stream as they grow older.

It also helps to continue American support for Israel.

Church attendance is down. Belief is down. Who is the easiest to convert?

School provides a captive audience of children that are susceptible to forming and maintaining beliefs that are delivered by a person representing authority. Plus, kids at that age (US grade school) are susceptible to social pressure to conform, from the authority figures and other kids.

In short, programming/brain washing fodder.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Because they're arrogant, self righteous, ignorant, selfish assholes with an opinion.

I feel like the title of this thread answers the very question it poses.

Because they're far-right christian-conservatives.

Why not ask them?
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

The Christians I am familiar with are all of the right wing fundamentalist variety, and they really believe that their views are true, so they want that truth to be spread everywhere possible to help redeem people. They believe evolution is a lie and that since it's only a theory, creationism is on par and should be taught so kids have access to both sides of the story and can hopefully have more information to choose the "right" theory.

They believe that God made America a great and prosperous nation, and that removing prayer etc. from schools will cause our nation to be morally bankrupt and therefore no longer a great and prosperous nation. They believe that prayer changes the atmosphere of an entire school.

The Christians I know aren't even really devious enough to be knowingly attempting to brainwash kids. They just truly believe that more of Christianity everywhere will make everyone's lives better.

And they would be correct.  It turns it into an oppressive and primitive environment.  Exactly what the fucks want.

As Loyola said: Give me the boy of 7, and I will give you the man.

That's why the rcc is loath to give up control of the Irish state school system.
